The Director of the English Language Academy in Worcester is a full-time position. This individual will have the primary responsibility of working on the daily operations of the intensive English program including: curriculum development, text selection, student data management and assessment. The Director will be the direct supervisor of ESL faculty members on the Worcester campus. The position requires positive and extensive relationships with faculty, students, administrators at MCPHS University and collaboration with academic and student services departments to contribute to student retention and success. Specific Responsibilities: The Director is responsible for: Designing comprehensive methods of teaching English to students with varying academic preparation and cultural values including classroom instruction, tutoring and computer-based learning; Monitoring and evaluating learning results and making needed program modifications; Researching professional practices of ESL learning and adopting those best suited to the ELA?Planning for and purchasing supplies and equipment for optimum program operation. Directing and overseeing the work of assigned instructors and staff; In collaboration with the Associate Provost of International Education, providing fair and effective administration of MCPHS University and ELA policies. Monitoring and evaluating the progress and performance of ESL students and developing techniques for increasing student retention and graduation. Works closely with the Student Academic and Life staff as well as the DSO on the Worcester campus to coordinate all areas of international student support. Required Qualifications:? A Master?s degree in TESOL or related field, proficient with Microsoft Office products and Microsoft Outlook, a minimum of 5 years experience in an intensive English program in higher education setting, strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and intercultural skills. This person must demonstrate the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds and cultural traditions and demonstrate administrative skills necessary to develop and promote the ESL programs at MCPHS as well as the leadership skills necessary for developing the teaching skills of the ESL faculty. Active participation and demonstrated leadership in the TESOL professional community. Desired Qualifications: Experience in working with the international community in higher education; Experience in living or studying abroad, fluency in a second language.
